Who this sells to
The stretch of river motor vessels cannot work: shallow moorings, small sites and villages a large ship sails past. Sold to clients who have either done the classic Nile cruise already or would not enjoy it.
The route, day by day
Esna · Edfu · Gebel el-Silsila · Kom Ombo · Aswan
Day 01 Esna — Embark
Transfer from Luxor by private vehicle to the dahabiya's mooring at Esna. Welcome lunch onboard as the boat raises canvas and drifts south with the current — the very different rhythm of dahabiya sailing begins here. Afternoon mooring at a small village accessible only to boats of this size. Dinner onboard as the sun sets over the Nile.
Day 02 El Kab
Morning at El Kab, the walled ancient settlement roughly twenty kilometres upriver from Esna, with rock-cut tombs in the cliff behind it and almost no other visitors — cruise ships pass this stretch without stopping. The afternoon is pure sailing time as the boat works south under canvas, the desert edge on one bank and cultivated fields on the other. Dinner and overnight at a quiet river mooring.
Day 03 Edfu & Gebel el-Silsila
Morning at the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the best-preserved temple in Egypt, reached the traditional way by horse-drawn carriage from the mooring — and considerably calmer before the cruise ships arrive. In the afternoon the boat moors at Gebel el-Silsila, the sandstone quarries that supplied the stone for temples the length of the country, where rock-cut shrines sit directly above the water. Continue sailing toward Kom Ombo overnight.
Day 04 Kom Ombo & Aswan
Morning at the double temple of Kom Ombo — two mirrored halves built for two gods, Sobek and Horus the Elder — then on to Aswan, arriving by late morning. Afternoon at the Temple of Philae, the High Dam and the granite quarries holding the Unfinished Obelisk, still attached to the bedrock where it cracked. A felucca sail around Elephantine Island closes the day. Dinner and overnight moored at Aswan.
Day 05 Aswan — Disembark
Breakfast and disembark by mid-morning. Optional Abu Simbel excursion or transfer to Aswan airport.
